Time is almost up. After only four days, Companies House will begin enforcing one of the most significant compliance shifts in its history: the mandatory identity verification process for company directors and Persons of Significant Control (PSCs).
From 18 November 2025, every UK director and PSC must verify their identity either directly through Companies House or via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP). For over six million registered directors, this is no longer a distant update, it has become an imminent requirement that demands action right now!
You Cannot Wait Any Longer!
Failure to comply with the upcoming Companies House ID verification could lead to severe operational restrictions, rejected filings and financial penalties. In some cases, directors risk being disqualified altogether.
The urgency is particularly acute for ACSP firms. Once the rules go live, these firms will face a flood of verification requests and must be equipped to manage them efficiently while still meeting their existing anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.
Companies House has made it clear that this shift isn’t symbolic. The days of lax identity oversight are coming to an end. With less than a handful of days left, those who delay risk significant disruption once the system goes live.
How Directors & PSCs Should Begin Preparing
Existing directors and PSCs do benefit from a 12-month transition period, but that window is not as generous as it appears. While they may not face immediate penalties, no company will be able to file its annual confirmation statement until every director and PSC has completed verification.
New directors appointed after 18 November will have no grace period at all. They must verify immediately. In other words, failing to prepare now could bottleneck filings and stall routine business operations.
For directors wondering whether it’s too late to act, it isn’t. But the time to start is today. Manual verification processes can still bridge the gap temporarily, but without proper ID verification (IDV) systems in place, the sheer volume of upcoming checks will overwhelm most firms.
Why Companies House ID Verification Matters
This transformation is part of a wider government push to combat fraud and economic crime. Introduced under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, the Companies House identity verification system gives the agency greater power to ensure that those running UK companies are who they claim to be.
For businesses, it also promotes greater transparency and trust, making due diligence and AML compliance smoother in the long run. It’s a long-overdue modernisation but one that comes with immediate challenges for those unprepared.
While directors can complete verification themselves through the GOV.UK One Login, many would prefer using an ACSP because they can offer a faster and more secure route. ACSPs handle the heavy lifting, like collecting, verifying and maintaining records, making the process smoother for all parties.
The Risks of Manual Verification
For ACSPs without technology in place, manual verification would still be acceptable. However, this would put them at a severe disadvantage. Manual verification would involve personally contacting clients, collecting ID documents, confirming authenticity and demonstrating to Companies House that staff are trained to conduct in-person verification.
The problem is scalability. As soon as the deadline arrives, the volume of pending checks will surge. Manual processes invite delays, human error and compliance gaps, leaving firms vulnerable to backlogs, administrative strain, and reputational risk.
Digital IDV providers, on the other hand, offer automation, security and speed.
Conclusion: The Final Countdown to Companies House Identity Verification
With the Companies House ID verification deadline just four days away, both directors and ACSPs face a final warning: act now or risk falling behind.
For directors, the action is simple: complete your verification before the cut-off to avoid restrictions. For ACSPs, the challenge is bigger: implementing reliable IDV technology and ensuring their compliance teams are ready to handle the surge.
This is not just another filing update; it marks the beginning of a new era of corporate transparency in the UK. Those who move swiftly will adapt smoothly. Those who hesitate may soon find themselves locked out of essential filings and compliance processes.
The clock is ticking and Companies House is watching.
